Vacation

These past few days Kristen and I have been on vacation. As we sometimes have in the past, we spent 4 days at the Applesauce Inn Bed and Breakfast. It’s a nice place to be, located close to decent hiking, beaches, restaurants, some interesting small towns, and some 30 wineries.
It goes without saying that we left our children with my parents who deserve a lot of credit. Not only did they take care of them for four days, but they also brought them to swimming lessons despite the fact that my dad can’t swim. Despite this, he was still required to get in the water.
I’ll probably post a couple pictures in the near future, but for now I have to do something else. Our cats came up with a “creative” solution to the fact that I was not around to change litter by “thinking outside (if rather close to) the box.”
I go to clean that up now.
After only 4 days? Dang, your cats are rude. Maybe you need an additional litter box when you’re on vacation.
We have 2 boxes for a total of 4 cats and they are fine for a week or more (no scooping involved). Of course, they still love to blanket the carpets with puke, but everything out the other end is always where it belongs.

One of our cats once had a problem with his urinary tract when we were on vacation a couple years ago. This resulted in him trying multiple spots around the house in an effort to avoid irritation. We, in turn, weren’t around to stop him and get him to the vet.
Since then a couple of our cats have an extremely small tolerance for messy litter. Just a little too much nastiness and they use the floor in front of the box.
The other cats are still capable and willing to wait a week–and they should. We’ve got 5 boxes for 5 cats. Two of them are used much more than the other three (2 on the main floor, 3 in the basement) and thus get nasty more quickly. I’m in the process of figuring out how to either enourage them to use the basement boxes more or to just put up with the upstairs boxes for longer.
